Quick answers to the most common questions about Wanderbu — how it works, what's included in your plan, and how to get the most out of your itinerary.

About Wanderbu

Wanderbu is an AI travel confidence engine for complex regional journeys. It helps solo travelers, groups, and families plan hard-to-navigate trips — routes involving trains, rural buses, stopovers, accommodation areas, meal planning, luggage logistics, and backup strategies — and syncs the finished plan to a mobile app for offline use during travel.

Wanderbu is built for complex regional journeys that most planning tools don't handle well — multi-city routes through rural Japan, Southeast Asian trips with mixed transport modes, family travel with older parents, and group trips that need real pacing logic. Current route focus includes Japan regional routes (Tokyo, Takayama, Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa) and expanding APAC destinations.

No. Wanderbu runs a chain of 9 specialized AI agents — not a single chatbot prompt. Each agent handles a distinct planning job: parsing your preferences, generating route options, checking feasibility, deciding stopovers, scoring daily comfort, writing the itinerary, creating a booking checklist, and producing offline mobile travel notes. The result is a structured plan, not a conversation summary.

Not in the current version. Wanderbu plans and structures your journey, providing route logic, accommodation area recommendations, comfort scoring, booking checklists, and backup plans. It does not yet connect to live booking systems — actual bookings are completed by you, guided by the checklist in your plan.

Planning a trip

Wanderbu asks for your origin, destination, travel dates, traveler type (solo, group, family), group size, age profile, pace preference, luggage level, budget, any must-visit places, and any travel concerns. The more detail you provide, the better the plan — but you can revise later.

Yes. Wanderbu has a family and group comfort mode that reduces daily walking burden, minimizes hotel changes, adds longer buffers between transport legs, chooses accommodations near stations, and flags days with high physical demand. You can activate this during intake or request it via the revision flow.

Every day in your itinerary receives a comfort score based on nine dimensions: total travel time, number of transfers, walking burden, luggage burden, rest quality, meal timing, older-traveler suitability, group suitability, and last-transport risk. Lower scoring days come with specific warnings and suggestions for improvement.

After your itinerary is generated, you can ask Wanderbu to adjust it without starting over. Supported revision requests include: make it slower, reduce hotel changes, optimize for older parents, make it cheaper, add more food stops, avoid early mornings, and make it better for a group of friends. Revisions do not use a Bu-Token.

Yes. All generated plans are saved to your Wanderbu account. You can access them at any time, revise them, or sync them to the mobile app.

Mobile app & offline access

After generating your itinerary, click 'Sync to mobile app' on the result page. Log in to the Wanderbu mobile app with the same account and your trip will appear automatically. The app caches the full itinerary offline so you can access it without internet during travel.

Offline access includes your full day-by-day schedule, transport leg details (mode, duration, transfer notes), hotel and accommodation area notes, booking checklist with progress tracking, backup plan notes, and key instructions for each transport leg. Real-time navigation and live booking availability are not included in offline mode.

No. The web app is fully functional for trip planning, itinerary viewing, and revisions. The mobile app is the offline travel companion — most useful during the trip itself, when you're on buses, trains, and in areas without reliable internet.

Bu-Tokens & pricing

A Bu-Token is one full itinerary generation. When you submit your trip intake and Wanderbu builds your plan, one Bu-Token is used. Revising, editing, and refining your existing plan is always free and does not consume Bu-Tokens.

Bu-Tokens are priced at roughly $1 each with bonus Bu-Tokens on larger packs. Full pricing is on the Pricing page. There are no subscriptions for individual travelers — buy a pack and use Bu-Tokens when you need them.

Wanderbu offers one plan type: a complete AI-generated trip itinerary. Every plan includes day-by-day routing with transport options and comfort scores, travel alerts and flagged risks, backup connections, a full booking checklist, and a visa summary. There are no tiers or stripped-down versions — every Bu-Token generates the same full-featured plan.
